Shower blog   08/13/2008
Swimming and diving are longtime Olympic events. But a new "wet event" seems to have been added this year - showering.

Flag Pin Blog   08/07/2008
Do you think too much of a fuss has been made about Obama's decisions on whether or not to wear a U.S. flag label pin? His belabored explanations for his decisions to wear one, and to not wear one, have been magnified out of all proportion in the eyes of many observers, and not just those on the left.

Bynum Blog   08/07/2008
Embattled North Cobb High School principal Dr. Lawrence Bynum now has been placed on paid administrative leave after new information surfaced about his performance as principal at Floyd Middle School. School HQ is mum on details, but the new details are believed to involve a new sexual harassment complaint filed against him last week with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Presidential Visit Blog   07/24/2008
U.S. presidents have been "dropping in" at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta for almost as long as there's been a base there, or at least it seems that way. The base is convenient to Atlanta and obviously is much easier to secure than Hartsfield-Jackson-Atlanta Airport. Among the chief executives who've dropped by through the years en route elsewhere have been Lyndon B. Johnson, Ronald Reagan, George Bush I, Bill Clinton and George Bush II.

Patriotism  07/02/2008
The definition of patriotism used to be pretty simple: Love of country and the willingness to put its needs ahead of your own, such as putting your life on the line to defend it in time of war.

Execution blog  06/26/2008
The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down a Louisiana law that allows rapists to be executed if their victims are children. Even Barack Obama disagrees with the decision.

Drilling blog  06/20/2008
Gas prices have crept past the $4 a gallon mark at many pumps in Marietta and Cobb County, with no guarantees they won't soon be higher. With the likelihood strong that prices might be $5 a gallon by Christmas - or even Labor Day - do you think it's time to take the handcuffs off the oil industry that have prevented it from tapping into the huge known reserves in our country? There are billions of gallons just offshore and billions more in a tiny corner of the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve in Alaska.

Obama blog  05/20/2008
Should the wives of presidential candidates be off-limits from partisan criticism? That's what Barack Obama argued on Monday, describing as ``detestable'' a Republican ad that made note of his wife Michelle's widely reported comment that "for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country."

Running mates blog  04/23/2008
This year's Super Bowl took place with the ``Super Tuesday'' primary as the backdrop two days later. The nationwide primary was supposed to anoint the presidential nominees for both parties. Now, unbelievably, we are on the eve of the second-most-watched event on the NFL calendar - its annual college player draft - and it's still anybody's guess who the Democratic nominee will be.

Kesting blog  04/15/2008
Southwest Cobb Commissioner Annette Kesting held a press conference on Marietta Square on Friday, no doubt in hopes of ``putting to bed'' the controversy that erupted after her remarks at a February Black History awareness at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marietta were reported in the media last week. In those remarks, she complained about the ``evilness'' on the third floor of the county commission offices where she works, said her coworkers are not Christian and lamented having to work with ``white women'' there.
